And for dessert\, indulge your sweet-tooth with chocolate torte topped with raspberry coulis and whipped cream! \nTo further enhance the affair\, Linda Roberts of Studio 70 will demonstrate the technique of applying hair tinsel and its effects. Some lucky party-goers will have the option of being one of the ladies so adorned (at a nominal price). Others may wish to arrange a “do” at her studio. \nThis unique party is of a piece with Musical Feast fare – great food\, delightful venue and beautiful music with a fanciful touch.

An event that offers insight into the cultural diversity\, architecture\, religious customs and landscape design of our beloved city? Historic Riverside Cemetery is the answer! \nFounded August 4\, 1885 as a garden-style cemetery and public park\, the cemetery offers all of that and more. There’s much more to be learned about others – some famous and others notable for their unusual or strange stories. \nFollowing our tour\, we will gather for lunch at Nine Mile restaurant\, 233 Montford Avenue where you will have your choice of options from their delicious menu. \nWith eighty-seven acres of landscaped grounds\, Riverside Cemetery is indeed a garden of extraordinary beauty not to be overlooked on any tour of the city. SUMMARY:Musical Feast: The Integrity of the Tree
DESCRIPTION:Coming up in September\, Musical Feasts offers an event that embodies everything Asheville – unique craftsmanship\, traditional local cuisine\, ecological awareness and a classy informality. \nInternationally acclaimed furniture designer\, Brian Boggs\, designs and builds fine wood furniture\, continuing a thirty-five-year career. He and his team handcraft heirloom-quality furniture – one piece at a time – with a focus on design\, craftsmanship and sustainability. According to Brian\, “I design furniture with an intention to preserve a tree’s integrity in honor of human comfort that will be celebrated for generations.” A journeyman philosopher of the first order! \nLunch will be a Southern-style picnic in Carrier Park. Your hosts plan a lunch of boneless chicken wings\, a fruit and berry tray\, potato salad\, tomato and cucumber salad\, deviled eggs\, chicken salad croissants\, iced tea and lemonade. Yum… \nAfter lunch watch Brian and his team at work and experience original craftsmanship with a human touch. Find a sense of permanence rather than the standard uniformity of today’s production line. Your feelings about furniture will never be the same and you will leave profoundly impressed.

SUMMARY:Musical Feast: Bison and Camels and Watusi …Oh My!
DESCRIPTION:This event is SOLD OUT. \nFor a most unusual Musical Feast experience\, consider spending a day on a working farm\, surrounded by the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. Located in Leicester about fifteen minutes from downtown Asheville\, the Dr. King Carolina Bison Farm is home to a variety of animals –American Buffalo (Bison)\, rare Black Bison\, rare White Bison\, milking Camels\, African Watusi\, North American Elk\, White Tailed Deer\, and Himalayan Yak. \nYou will be transported through the fields on a tractor-pulled trailer so as to “get up close and personal” with the animals as they graze. You may be able to hand feed the Bison. Children should find this particularly exciting. \nAfter the tour of approximately ninety minutes\, Mike Ellington\, the manager\, will tell you all about the farm business\, the benefits of bison over beef and he will be prepared to answer your questions about any and all of the animals. \nThe experience would not be complete without sampling grilled bison burgers and hot dogs. The meat\, of course\, will be supplemented by condiments and the usual picnic fare. \nDon’t miss this Feast – a party for grown-ups and kids alike. This is your chance to get out in the country for a great new family activity! \nNote: All attendees will be required to sign a liability waiver upon arrival at the farm.

To quote from the church’s brochure\, “The term Basilica is a special designation given by the Holy Father to certain churches because of their antiquity\, dignity\, historical importance or significance as a place of worship.” \nBasilica designer Rafael Guastavino was engaged by George Vanderbilt to lend his expertise to the construction of the Biltmore House. He stayed in the area and\, working with architect Richard Sharp Smith\, brought this splendid Spanish Renaissance building to fruition. \nTo learn all these details and more\, take a tour through this magnificent building with Basilica lead docent Diane Wright. This will be a feast for the senses\, and a genuine feast as well because\, following the tour\, you are invited to take a short walk (or drive if you wish) to the home of Ellen and Dave Nutter (address will be provided to attendees via email). Here on this shaded street in Montford\, you are invited for lunch on the veranda of their gracious hundred-year-old house. Your hosts have planned a delectable lunch featuring Prosecco\, Salad Niçoise and a dessert of flan with strawberries. \nDon’t miss this special opportunity to see and learn more about Asheville’s unique landmark while enjoying another special Musical Feast.

SUMMARY:Musical Feast: Pinball Wizards Want More!
DESCRIPTION:Take off your jacket\, loosen that tie\, roll up your sleeves and challenge your friends. The Pinball Museum Musical Feast is back by popular demand. It’s even better now with over 70 games versus the museum’s original 27. If you grew up loving the sound of the bells ringing and the balls clicking off the flippers\, you can now revisit that thrill. Here is an opportunity to return to the past and play games the “old” way. For those of you who have never played\, come and find out just how much fun it can be (there were several converts last time). \nYour ticket price includes unlimited play time on all the machines. And to add to the fun of the evening with friends\, there will be great food: pizza of course\, sandwiches\, popcorn – accompanied by beer\, sodas and water. \nMENU: Pizza\, sandwiches\, popcorn\, beer and sodas

SUMMARY:Musical Feast: A Wedding Feast from India
DESCRIPTION:Charlotte Caplan has been enjoying Indian food since her childhood in London. When she moved to the Carolinas and married Mike Brubaker\, who plays the French horn in the Asheville Symphony\, she found that there were very few Indian restaurants in town. So she made a specialty of learning to cook the delightful and endlessly varied Indian dishes she loves. \nLast summer their son\, Sam\, married an Indian girl\, Elina Thomas\, and Charlotte and Mike were delighted to organize their wedding feast. Now you are invited to participate in some of that culinary magic with this Musical Feast. \nThe party will be held at the Caplan-Brubaker home in Montford (address will be provided to attendees via email). Their house was built in 1915 in the Arts and Crafts style for prominent Asheville merchant Gustav Lichtenfels and his wife Edna Long Lichtenfels (a niece of Moses Cone.) It is believed to be one of many Asheville homes designed by Richard Sharp Smith\, another English native\, who was the resident architect for the Biltmore estate. \nThe wedding feast\, a sit-down dinner\, will include a variety of Indian dishes\, from appetizers to main dishes and desserts\, of the type that might be served at a festive Indian wedding (and will include vegetarian\, vegan and gluten-free options.) The dishes will all be homemade from scratch by Charlotte Caplan and Ellen Nutter and the feast will be accompanied by relevant music selected by Mike. \nCome to Montford and enjoy this Musical Feast – an exotic Indian Wedding Feast!

The Grovewood Gallery offers local arts and crafts including pottery\, woodworking\, clothing and sculptures. Or perhaps you would prefer to explore the antique car museum or learn about Biltmore Industries founded in 1901 by Edith Vanderbilt and two inspired teachers. Both museums are open until 5:30 each afternoon. \nFor those of you who continue to be intrigued by the story of Asheville’s early years\, this is a tour not to be missed! \n*Please note that the tour of the Grove Park Inn is a walking tour and requires periods of standing. There is one set of stairs\, however an elevator is available if needed.

SUMMARY:Musical Feast: Fall for Crafters Four
DESCRIPTION:Come spend a fine fall afternoon in Black Mountain in the woodworking studio of Allen Arcand where Allen has gathered together a group of highly respected artists to demonstrate and share their love of fine craft. \nBegin the visit with a glass of wine or beer and appetizers. Then\, at your leisure\, wander the studio and learn what each artist does and how he/she goes about it. \nAllen started wood-working as a hobby to build items for his family but ultimately realized that it had become a calling\, as it were\, and decided to use his God-given talent to build furniture as a career. Wait till you see what he has done to transform the kitchen of their 1950’s-era cottage. \nFred works in various media – wood\, clay\, original designs in wood combined with metal objects\, glass\, electronic components and so on. Particular specialties are his wooden greeting cards and whimsical caricatures painted on some of his wood creations. \nJanet began her artistic career as a costumer for the opera but soon developed a special interest in jewelry design and construction. While opera remains an interest\, it is in the past and jewelry design has become her true passion. \nJim\, after a career as an engineer\, discovered ceramic art and sculpting. Deriving inspiration from nature\, his art is as diverse as the world around him. But you must come see for yourself. \nWhen the studio tours are over\, enjoy the fall foliage and mingle with fellow art lovers as the sun goes down. Weather permitting\, you will dine alfresco in the pergola warmed by a fire in the fire pit – French onion soup\, followed by pork tenderloin in fig sauce with a medley of fall roasted vegetables. Dessert will be warm apple crisp with ice cream\, prepared and served by “McGills Homemade Caterer.” A lovely ending to a very interesting day!
