SUMMARY:Musical Feast: From Folk to Baroque: enjoy dinner and a musical evening with acoustic guitarist Robin Bullock
DESCRIPTION:Robin Bullock\, of “Swananoa Solistice” fame\, and celebrated acoustic guitar\, mandolin and cittern master folk musician\, joins us this fall when the autumn beauty of The Ramble’s scenic woodlands provide the backdrop for a delectable Musical Feast. Robin blends the ancient folk melodies of Celtic lands\, their American descendants\, and the masterworks of the Baroque and Renaissance eras into a powerful musical vision. \nHe is hailed as the “Celtic guitar god” by the Baltimore City Paper and with his “uncanny ability to combine precision\, virtuosity and soul… [Robin Bullock’s] reputation as one of the best folk instrumentalists in the business is well-deserved\,” Sing Out! magazine \nAccording to Dirty Linen\, The Magazine of Folk and World Music\, “a rare combination of technical virtuosity and emotional nuance…[Bullock] has a deep appreciation of the power of music to touch people’s hearts…” \nBe sure to join us at the Ramble\, enjoy the gracious fall colors\, while you feast on a sumptuous meal of spectacular hors d’oeuvres\, wine and an array of sumptuous desserts before the music begins. A Musical Feast not to be missed.

SUMMARY:Musical Feast: Historic Riverside Cemetery
DESCRIPTION:Are you interested in a unique journey into Asheville’s past? An event that offers insight into the cultural diversity\, architecture\, religious customs and landscape design of our beloved city? Historic Riverside Cemetery is the answer! \nFounded August 4\, 1885 as a garden-style cemetery and public park\, the cemetery offers all of that and more. Gary Clark of “Tours by Clark” will lead us on a one-hour walking tour of the premises and tell us about some of the “residents”\, some history\, a few fun stories and just a bit of spook (it’s Halloween\, after all!) It promises to be a very interesting adventure. \nThomas Wolfe and O. Henry are only two luminaries from Asheville’s past to be buried here. There’s much more to be learned about others – some famous and others notable for their unusual or strange stories. \nFollowing our tour\, we will gather for lunch at Nine Mile restaurant\, 233 Montford Avenue where you will have your choice of options from their delicious menu. \nWith eighty-seven acres of landscaped grounds\, Riverside Cemetery is indeed a garden of extraordinary beauty not to be overlooked on any tour of the city. Bring your camera.

SUMMARY:Musical Feast: Family of Earth
DESCRIPTION:The Legacy of Wilma Dykeman\nYour hosts welcome you to a special Sunday afternoon gathering highlighting the legacy of Asheville’s own Wilma Dykeman\, author\, historian\, educator\, journalist and environmental advocate – a true Renaissance woman. Her focused passions led to the championing of causes that remain relevant today – water pollution\, the rights of women\, her untiring devotion to the power of place\, and her responsibility in preserving the integrity and culture of Appalachia. \nWilma’s son\, James Stokley\, will present a film documenting his mother’s incredible life and career. James will also treat the group to a lively discussion about his late mother’s book “Family of Earth”\, discovered after her death in 2006. \nRobin Gaiser\, a resident of Beaverdam\, noted musician and author will entertain\, appropriately\, on the Appalachian dulcimer (or perhaps one of the other early folk instruments on which she is virtuosic.) \nSo join us for hors d’oeuvres\, wine\, coffee and sumptuous desserts at this unique Musical Feast. You will leave with a copy of “Family of Earth” and an understanding of the ideas which shaped a young Wilma Dykeman’s curiosity!
