SUMMARY:*CANCELED* All Fired Up! Gourmet Food Prepared Over an Open Fire
DESCRIPTION:Enjoy a delicious outdoor “Farm to Table” dinner prepared over an open fire by an internationally trained chef at The Farmer’s Hands Homestead. Chef Sebastian Zijp will prepare a gourmet dinner for us on his two-acre farm in Mars Hill\, just 20 minutes from downtown Asheville. \nSebastian and his wife\, Ariel\, will welcome us to their 150-year-old farmstead where nearly 100 percent of the food served at his Farm to Table dinners is sourced.  Have a glass of wine or beer while you stroll around the farm\, mingle with fellow guests and watch Sebastian cook. Bluegrass musicians will add to the ambience at this lovely \nsetting.  Dinner will be served family style on long wooden tables under an arbor festooned with high-hanging Edison bulbs. \nSebastian and Ariel pride themselves on following sustainable and organic practices while learning from the land.  They try to grow all their own food and also support other local farmers. In addition to the dinners\, Sebastian offers cooking classes on various topics: making pasta\, cooking over a fire\, and dishes from other cultures such as Spanish\, Thai and Vietnamese. Their suppers and classes are frequently sold out\, so take this opportunity to enjoy a “Farm to Table” experience at its best.  All guests will receive a menu that includes Sebastian’s recipes to try at home.

SUMMARY:*CANCELED* All Aboard! Calling all Train Enthusiasts!
DESCRIPTION:Come\, bring your children and grandchildren\, for a playful afternoon experiencing the magic of nine trains\, zipping round about a model train village. Measuring 18’ x 100’ at the beautifully restored 1902 Southern Railway Depot in Hendersonville\, the home of the Apple Valley Model Railroad Club has NINE trains\, over 2000 feet of track and 225 switches\, in a magical HO scale village meticulously constructed by its members. \nA visit will surely put you right back in time to when you were a child mesmerized by the magic of a model train going round and round through tunnels\, over bridges\, winding through the countryside.  Those who would like\, can become an “engineer-for-a-day\,” taking a turn controlling your own train\, blowing the whistle\, ringing the bell\, and having a blast! \nWhy not come for a delicious lunch and share these magical memories with your own children and grandchildren?  It is one of the top tourist destinations in Western North Carolina\, after all. \nMany composers loved trains and incorporated them in their music. Arthur Honegger\, Leonard Bernstein\, and Hans Christian Lumbye were just a few. Antonin Dvorak was probably the biggest train enthusiast of any composer. Our guide\, Apple Valley Club member and Symphony Guild member Maurice Stone\, will discuss Dvorak’s fascination with trains and how it influenced his music.

SUMMARY:Reese’s Pieces - Vance and Friends
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for an evening of great food and entertainment by some of Asheville’s premier young musicians from the Asheville Symphony Youth Orchestra. They will be accompanied by Vance Reese\, well-known to us as a bass player in the Asheville Symphony Orchestra since 1996.  Vance is a man who possesses many interesting \ntalents.  He is a professor of music at Brevard College\, has done dream studies at the Haden Institute\, is the organist at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepard in Brevard\, and serves as the congregational cantor at Congregation Beth Ha Taphila for the High Holidays.  Vance has performed in other musical feasts in the past and was a featured accompanist in the Musical Feast at Biltmore Park in 2017. \nThe evening will begin with a buffet assortment of hors d’oeuvres and beverages.  Following the musical performance\, along with liqueurs\, you will be treated to deliciously decadent desserts: including but not limited to chocolate-covered strawberries and Black Forest Crisp.
