SUMMARY:Musical Feast: Run for the Roses!
DESCRIPTION:This is a Southern Tradition you will not want to miss! Witness the 144th Run for the Roses – “Derby Style” in the Biltmore Forest home of Barbra and Keith Love (private address will be sent to attendees via email). All the Race Day rules have been followed\, and your hosts look forward to giving you an authentic Derby experience.\n\nYou will arrive in time to place your bets and watch the pre-Derby highlights while you sip a Mint Julep and nibble on bourbon balls. Creativity is encouraged for entering the “Most Dramatic Hat Contest” that will include all participants. Stroll the spring gardens until Post Time when it is off to the races as we each cheer on our favorite horse or jockey! Tradition will prevail as all will join in the singing of “My Old Kentucky Home.”\n\nAn authentic elegant Kentucky dinner buffet\, made with recipes passed down from a bona fide Kentucky Colonel\, will follow the race. What’s a Derby celebration without beaten biscuits\, country ham and Benedictine? Yes\, you will feel the bluegrass between your toes when you take a bite of Derby Pie topped with bourbon whipped cream.\n\nAnd you will leave the party with fond memories of the year you went to the Derby\, right here in Asheville.

SUMMARY:Musical Feast: Feast and Falconry at the Sourwood Inn
DESCRIPTION:Back by popular demand\, we have arranged a repeat for those many of you who requested it. Do come enjoy an April afternoon at the Sourwood Inn\, Asheville’s closest and most glorious mountain getaway. The Inn\, an Asheville treasure\, is located on 100 acres of hilly terrain at an elevation of 3\,200 feet. It feels far away and remote\, but is actually only ten miles from downtown Asheville\, and easily accessible. Constructed of cedar and stone\, the Inn was created in 1998 by Nat and Anne Burkhardt to provide a retreat where folks can enjoy a home away from home. \nAs a guest of this Musical Feast\, you are invited to enjoy a glass of wine while exploring the Inn and grounds. Then partake of a delicious chicken salad luncheon complete with soup and dessert. Afterwards\, Jeff Curtis\, of Weaverville’s Curtis Wright Outfitters\, will again demonstrate his beautiful raptors. Jeff\, one of a few licensed falconers in Western North Carolina\, is a knowledgeable speaker. Not only will you meet his birds; you will be entranced by his love of the ancient Sport of Kings. \nMenu: Ginger-Carrot Soup\, Chicken Salad with Grapes and Pecans\, Marinated Asparagus\, Deviled Eggs\, Cheddar-corn Muffins\, Strawberry Dessert. \n

SUMMARY:Musical Feast: Juilliard Jazzical
DESCRIPTION:Doris and Ralph Loomis are excited to offer you an opportunity for a particularly unique Feast next spring – a piano recital by a second year student of The Juilliard School\, Henry Smolen by name. Henry is flying in for the night and will be offering an extensive repertoire of favorite and familiar classical pieces as well jazz impressions. \nThe Loomises and their cohosts plan a delectable feast for you to enjoy around the pianos in the music room. Suggestions to whet your appetite – pork tenderloin sliders\, shrimp\, bruschetta\, cheese-covered olives\, salmon deviled eggs – and\, of course\, wine and sparkling juices. \nHenry\, a Californian\, has been studying piano since age three and gave his first recital when he was only five. His performances include recitals at New York’s Carnegie Hall and at the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia\, and he has participated in competitions across the country. A classical and jazz pianist\, Henry spends his summers attending prestigious festivals such as Aspen Music Festival and Tanglewood and the Piano Master Class at Banff Centre. \nCome join us in the Loomises’ incomparable Biltmore Forest home for this presentation (private address will be sent to attendees via email). Young Henry Smolen\, now at the beginning of his career\, is a star in the making and you Feasters will be able to claim acquaintance when he becomes a touring artist! \nMenu: pork tenderloin sliders\, shrimp\, bruschetta\, cheese-covered olives\, salmon deviled eggs – and\, of course\, wine and sparkling juices.

SUMMARY:Musical Feast: Pinball Wizards Want More!
DESCRIPTION:Take off your jacket\, loosen that tie\, roll up your sleeves and challenge your friends. The Pinball Museum Musical Feast is back by popular demand. It’s even better now with over 70 games versus the museum’s original 27. As we discovered at the first feast\, many of us have fond memories of pinball machines and video games in arcades\, convenience stores or drug stores\, or in a local bar. If you grew up loving the sound of the bells ringing and the balls clicking off the flippers\, you can now revisit that thrill. Here is an opportunity to return to the past and play games the “old” way. For those of you who have never played\, come and find out just how much fun it can be (there were several converts last time). \nYour ticket price includes unlimited play time on all the machines. And to add to the fun of the evening with friends\, there will be great food: pizza of course\, sandwiches\, popcorn – accompanied by beer\, sodas and water. \nMENU: Pizza\, sandwiches\, popcorn\, beer and sodas

SUMMARY:Musical Feast: Music Magic in Biltmore House and Forest
DESCRIPTION:This feast offers some unique opportunities for hearing wonderful music as well as to have a special experience at Biltmore House. Here is your opportunity to have the first floor of Biltmore practically to yourself. Arrive at the Estate at 5:00 for a drive to the mansion where musicians from the Youth Orchestra will entertain and inspire you. Among those performing will be Elizabeth and Phoebe Propst\, both of whom played one of the Bach movements with Midori during the Amadeus Festival last March. \nAfter the performance\, you are offered the opportunity to explore the first floor of the house at your leisure before departing at 6:30 for the lovely home of Doris and Ralph Loomis in Biltmore Forest. There you will partake of an elegant buffet complemented by wine and sparkling drinks. \nBut your musical entertainment is not over. So not only will there be a culinary feast but\, taking advantage of the two grand pianos in the Loomis home\, the music magic will continue with several performances. \nStudents of Karen Boyd\, Dominic and Joseph Rajagopal\, will perform a movement of the Mozart Sonata for two pianos. (Dominic won first place in the Advanced division of this year’s Asheville Area Piano Teachers’ competition.) Janeki Beharrysingh and her teacher\, Polly Feitzinger\, will play a Kahlau Sonatina and Tizah Baluch will delight us with works of Chopin and Mussorgsky. (Tizah won the Carolina Youth Symphony Concerto Competition.) Finally\, Doris Loomis and Suzan Fehr\, the teacher of both Doris and Tizah\, will perform the Debussy Petite Suite for four hands \nThe evening will end with sumptuous desserts. This truly will be an unforgettable evening of both food and music – A MUSICAL FEAST.
