SUMMARY:Carolina’s High Craft: Makers and Collectors
 - A Feast for the Eyes (and the palate!)
DESCRIPTION:Come enjoy an afternoon of visual delights as you take in the amazing town and mountain views and remarkable art collection at Karen DePew and Steve Keeble’s lovely home. Collectors for over 15 years\, our hosts retired here to participate in Western North Carolina’s historically significant and nationally recognized craft and art environment.   \nStroll through the patios and home to experience this extensive collection of art and fine craft from around the world. You’ll enjoy hors d’oeuvres\, also hand-crafted\, served with local beer (and wine\, of course.) \nThe spotlight then turns to two nationally renowned artisans who recently moved to Weaverville\, David and Wendy Ellsworth. They will describe their work and share their creative journeys\, as Karen and Steve share the story of their evolution into the roles of “serious collectors.” \nWoodturner David Ellsworth’s works have been included in the permanent collections of forty-four museums\, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. In 2009 he was elected the “Master of the Medium” by the James A. Renwick Alliance of the Smithsonian Institution in Washington\, D.C. \nWendy Ellsworth is a nationally known bead artist\, recognized as the “2019 Designer of the Year” for Beadwork magazine. Wendy’s museum collections include the Museum of Art and Design in New York\, NY and the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston\, MA.  You can view the Ellsworths’ work at: https://ellsworthstudios.com/.

SUMMARY:Music\, Art and a bit of Vanderbilt Lore - The Episcopal Cathedral of All Souls
DESCRIPTION:This Musical Feast has it all: classical and contemporary music performed by talented Kyle Ritter\, Alicia Chapman\, Frances Duff and Lea Kibler\, in the art-filled sanctuary of  The Episcopal Cathedral of All Souls.  Built in 1896 as the home church of the Vanderbilt family\, it is famous for its architecture and vibrantly colorful windows.  Tasty food\, wine and delectable desserts in the Parish Hall\, decorated with beautiful paintings by University of North Carolina at Asheville faculty member\, Tucker Cooke\, round out this multicultural event. \nKyle Ritter\, All Souls organist and music director since 2002\, will present a concert of trio sonatas by two German Baroque composers\, Johann Sebastian Bach and Georg Philipp Telemann\, as well as contemporary works for instrument and organ. We will be joined by Asheville Symphony musicians Alicia Chapman (oboe) and Frances Duff (cello).  Lea Kibler\, a member of the All Souls Adult Choir\, will play flute. Kyle Ritter plays and conducts for the Cathedral’s three Sunday services and directs a 50-member adult choir and two children’s choirs. He also serves as Assistant Director/Accompanist for the Asheville Symphony Chorus.  \nThe fascinating history of the Episcopal Cathedral of All Souls\, will be revealed by Martha Fullington\, coordinator of the docent program at All Souls. Martha is an architectural historian whose career was with the State Preservation Offices of both North and South Carolina. She will share some history highlights and cast aside a few myths.

DESCRIPTION:A perfect Valentine evening of culinary delights with music by elegant harpist Carroll Ownbey awaits you. Entering the lovely Ramble home of Rose and Jon Lawrie\, just before a winter sunset\, you will be greeted with a Vanderbilt Martini\, a glass of wine\, or a refreshing spritzer as you unwind to soft jazz. Carroll is an original member of the Blue Ridge Harp Ensemble\, which is comprised of four concert harps and other professional harpists. Carroll will be performing famous love songs to warm anyone’s heart. Win a special door prize\, if luck is with you; everyone\, though\, will be gifted a book of poems and sonnets\, chocolate from The Chocolate Fetish\, and a small bouquet of flowers. \nWatch out! You just might be struck by Cupid’s arrow!  Don’t miss this intimate\, heartfelt affair;  truly an evening to remember!
