The tour will take place at the beautiful Reynolds Mountain home of Lori and Bob Herlin where Lori has designed the most extensive\, exquisitely nuanced miniature Bonsai garden in Asheville.  Daniel Coffey\, Asheville’s own Bonsai expert\, will give you pointers about the care and propagation of various styles of Bonsai using Lori’s beautiful Bonsai collection. During your spring cleaning this year\, search your closets and storage areas for unneeded and unwanted high-quality items. Maybe there were a few items you considered for our recent Brunk auction\, but fit better here. Now is another chance to donate these items to a great cause!\n\n \n\nPlease pass the word on to your friends\, as well.\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\nTypes of items to consider for donation: Furniture in good condition\, ceramics\, tableware\, glassware\, silver\, art\, books\, working lamps\, decorative items\, artwork\, high-quality new or vintage linens\, couture or vintage clothing\, jewelry\, high-end fishing equipment\, vintage tools\, electric tools\, musical instruments and mirrors.\n\n \n\nTo help gauge acceptable items\, ask yourself this: Would you pay at least $20 for such an item at an estate sale?\n\n \n\nTo make it as easy as possible for you to donate\, we’re offering several choices for dropping off your items — and you can also schedule a pick-up of large items from your home.\n\n \n\nMore information will follow in the coming weeks and months. For now\, start making plans to participate in this fundraiser (and think of items you may be able to donate!) for the Asheville Symphony Guild.\n\n \n\nPlease contact the following committee members with any questions or donations:\n\n \n\nRobin Harben: robharben@yahoo.com\nBetty Fox: foxbtty@aol.com\nSylvia Cassel: sylvia.cassel@gmail.com\n\n \nWe look forward to seeing you and your treasures!

SUMMARY:A Walk on the Wild Side
DESCRIPTION:Join us for one of the best hikes in North Carolina’s Pisgah Forest! A gentle\, mostly level loop trail of 3 miles will introduce you to the wonders of rare mountain bogs\, beautiful mature forest canopies\, and fern-filled woods. We may even see a touch of fall color! Our knowledgeable tour guide\, George Luther\, was a National Park Ranger for 11 years in the most visited U. S. National Parks. He will explain how beaver dams along the South Fork Mills River created these unusual mountain bogs with distinct plants and wildlife. George and Edith Vanderbilt created their “Cradle of Forestry” school here\, which is now a heritage site. It was the first to introduce modern forestry management techniques in the country. We will learn the history of how the Vanderbilt family of Biltmore House in Asheville helped create the Pisgah National Forest\, one of the nation’s best outdoor recreation playgrounds. \nThis area is also known as the “pink beds\,” because of the dense rhododendron and mountain laurel thickets that bloom every spring. Some thickets still remain in this beautiful\, shade forest. \nWe will start off early (8:30 – 9:00 am) at the picnic area with a light snack of juice and pastries. Water will be provided for all hikers during our leisurely walk. \nAfter the hike\, we will enjoy a delicious lunch of salads\, cold cuts\, cheeses\, fruit\, dessert\, beverages\, wine and beer at our covered\, private picnic shelter. There are full-service restrooms there. Special treat: Ben Warner\, a Guild member\, will provide musical selections on his 7-string classical guitar. \nThis event covers the best of the peaceful\, natural world with fascinating history and the company of other music lovers!
