Beethoven in C: Confidence, Courage and Chutzpah
Saturday, January 18, 2020 @ 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm$65
The January “Mixtapes” Musical Feast has been reworked into a new event. Who remembers Miles Hoffman and the fantastic Feast he presented on the music and life of Mo65zart during Amadeus, 2017? Well. Miles is back!
“Beethoven in C: Confidence, Courage ad Chutzpah” introduces us to the personal qualities and experiences that made Beethoven who and what he was – and what his music has meant to the world ever since. Launching the Asheville Symphony’s celebration of the 250th anniversary of Beethoven’s birth, Miles will explore Beethoven’s extraordinary personality, one which defied limits, ignored convention, and met the greatest and most painful of challenges with courage and brilliance. Miles, an accomplished violist, will play for us to enhance our entire experience.
Miles Hoffman is the founder and violist of the American Chamber Players. He spent many years as classical music commentator for NPR’s Morning Edition and is the voice and writer of NPR’s podcast still-running “A Minute with Miles.” Mr. Hoffman is also an author, and his new book, Inside the World of Classical Music: 205 Illuminating Essays will be presented to you as part of the special Feast.
Susan Stamberg, NPR Special Correspondent, on this new book: “This delightful compendium of intelligence, opinions, gossip, and just plain fun is the work of a true music lover, educator and performer. Bravo, Miles!”
A meal of heavy hors d’oeuvres will be served.
