Musical Feast: Tapas and Tales

Saturday, April 13, 2019 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

$125.00
  • « Musical Feast: The Icing on the Cake
  • Asheville Symphony Chorus: Handel’s Messiah »

Asheville Symphony Organization board member, Michael Selverne, has been a behind-the-scenes player in the music industry for decades, and does he ever have some stories to share – with the platinum and gold records to back it up! Visit Michael and his wife Stacy in their mountaintop home in South Asheville for an evening of storytelling, a tour of Michael’s in-home studio, delicious tapas from the Blind Pig Supper Club and live jazz music.

If you’ve listened to the Asheville Symphony’s “Symphony Sessions” album, you’ve heard Michael’s skills as a producer. Among the many artists with whom Michael has worked during his more than thirty-five year career as a producer, musician, engineer, music publisher and attorney are Steep Canyon Rangers, Ice-T, Donald Fagen (Steely Dan), The Fugees, Phil Ramone (Producer), Wyclef Jean, India.Arie, Hanson, Motley Crue, Hootie and the Blowfish, Guns and Roses, Live, Wu-Tang Clan and Peter Tosh. Throughout the 1980’s and early 1990’s, Michael was a leading music lawyer while continuing to produce records and assembling bands for high-profile tours including Madonna’s “Girlie Show” and Michael Jackson’s “This Is it.”

After enjoying Michael’s stories, live music and the beautiful view, we’ll head downstairs to Michael’s recording studio for a look at how music gets made. Linger for a few minutes in the hallway to take in a display of some of Michael’s 50 platinum and gold records.

Blind Pig Supper Club, well known throughout North Carolina for its unique and frequently sold out pop-up dining events, will provide a selection of tapas. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to hear Michael’s insider stories, view his platinum and gold records, and try Blind Pig’s delicious food!
