Wednesday, April 29, 2020 @ 11:30 am - 2:30 pm
$50.00Come, bring your children and grandchildren, for a playful afternoon experiencing the magic of nine trains, zipping round about a model train village. Measuring 18’ x 100’ at the beautifully restored 1902 Southern Railway Depot in Hendersonville, the home of the Apple Valley Model Railroad Club has NINE trains, over 2000 feet of track and 225 switches, in a magical HO scale village meticulously constructed by its members.
A visit will surely put you right back in time to when you were a child mesmerized by the magic of a model train going round and round through tunnels, over bridges, winding through the countryside. Those who would like, can become an “engineer-for-a-day,” taking a turn controlling your own train, blowing the whistle, ringing the bell, and having a blast!
Why not come for a delicious lunch and share these magical memories with your own children and grandchildren? It is one of the top tourist destinations in Western North Carolina, after all.
Many composers loved trains and incorporated them in their music. Arthur Honegger, Leonard Bernstein, and Hans Christian Lumbye were just a few. Antonin Dvorak was probably the biggest train enthusiast of any composer. Our guide, Apple Valley Club member and Symphony Guild member Maurice Stone, will discuss Dvorak’s fascination with trains and how it influenced his music.
