Carolina’s High Craft: Makers and Collectors – A Feast for the Eyes (and the palate!)
Wednesday, October 2, 2019 @ 4:00 pm - 6:30 pm
$70.00Come enjoy an afternoon of visual delights as you take in the amazing town and mountain views and remarkable art collection at Karen DePew and Steve Keeble’s lovely home. Collectors for over 15 years, our hosts retired here to participate in Western North Carolina’s historically significant and nationally recognized craft and art environment.
Stroll through the patios and home to experience this extensive collection of art and fine craft from around the world. You’ll enjoy hors d’oeuvres, also hand-crafted, served with local beer (and wine, of course.)
The spotlight then turns to two nationally renowned artisans who recently moved to Weaverville, David and Wendy Ellsworth. They will describe their work and share their creative journeys, as Karen and Steve share the story of their evolution into the roles of “serious collectors.”
Woodturner David Ellsworth’s works have been included in the permanent collections of forty-four museums, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. In 2009 he was elected the “Master of the Medium” by the James A. Renwick Alliance of the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C.
Wendy Ellsworth is a nationally known bead artist, recognized as the “2019 Designer of the Year” for Beadwork magazine. Wendy’s museum collections include the Museum of Art and Design in New York, NY and the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, MA. You can view the Ellsworths’ work at: https://ellsworthstudios.com/.
