Musical Feast: Fancy Fiddlin’ with a Feast
Saturday, June 9, 2018 @ 5:30 pm - 9:00 pm
$100.00Blue Moon Lodge, the rustic mountain home of Sharon and Roger Eschenroeder, is the perfect setting for an evening celebrating North Carolina’s musical heritage (private address will be sent to attendees via email). Sitting atop Butler Mountain in Fairview, the home has paths for strolling and rocking chairs for sitting and admiring the long-range mountain views. In addition to a sumptuous feast of barbecue with all the “fixin’s” including beer and wine, guests will be treated to a special program of traditional, old-time mountain music performed by the Symphony’s own Emily Schaad, and her musical partner of ten years, Cecil Burganus.
Admired by Symphony attendees as the Associate Principal Viola and as Conductor of the Asheville Symphony Youth Orchestra, Emily is also an acclaimed, award-winning fiddler, having received her Master’s degree in Appalachian Studies and having learned traditional fiddling styles from well-known fiddle masters. Cecil is a multi-instrumentalist and singer who is central to the Watauga County old-time music scene. Both are passionate about sharing with their audiences the history and traditions of mountain music.
So, come prepared to tickle your taste buds and tap your toes while learning more about the musical history and heritage of this wonderful place we all call home.
