Musical Feast: Tea and Tradition in Montford
Thursday, October 5, 2017 @ 1:30 pm
$50.00Asheville in October is the perfect time of the year for a Musical Feast like this — a walking tour of historic Montford followed by a traditional English-style afternoon tea.
The tour will begin in a completely renovated Queen Anne Victorian home next to Montford Park (private address will be sent to attendees via email). The terrain is not difficult but, to be sure of your footing, wear proper shoes. The walk itself will last approximately one hour and will take place rain or shine so please come comfortably prepared.
Sharon Fahrer of History@Hand will serve as your guide. She has been giving tours of Montford, downtown Asheville, Riverside Cemetery and Biltmore Village for over ten years and was recently awarded the Bob Terrill Book Award by the Old Buncombe Genealogical Society for her work, A Home in Shalom’ville: A History of Asheville’s Jewish Community.
Montford boasts a variety of home styles from the past. With headsets to ensure that you miss not a word of Sharon’s commentary, you’ll be introduced to many of them and learn about some of the past residents.
After the tour, return to the house where your walk began to enjoy a delicious high tea. This will consist of a variety of teas to accompany scones with clotted cream and preserves, freshly prepared tea sandwiches and an array of homemade tea-cakes and pastries.
With a pleasant walk and such mouth-watering refreshment, this promises to be a perfect fall afternoon. So, join your friends for a Feast of surprises and delights in old Montford.
